Send sophistication with 1-800Flowers

"But he that dares not grasp the thorn should never crave the rose." ~Anne Bronte

Flowers for Valentine's Day can be a challenge for the sender who seeks to impress the object of his or her desire, when mutual feelings are in question. Some historians of the first representation of St. Valentine say the holiday's origins date back to fourteenth century England, when our feted mid-February day was first associated with romantic love. Declarations of amorous and other feelings have been made with flowers for centuries.

Roses are perhaps the most expressive flowers, each color a communicator of the intentions of the sender. Red shades of roses have long been extended as a signal of romantic feelings and passion for the recipient. A symbol of unity and new beginnings is attributed to white roses, frequently chosen for wedding bouquets. In the garden or arriving at the doorstep, pink roses show appreciation and gratitude for the person to whom they are sent. In the case of repairing a rift or misunderstanding, yellow roses have long been a gesture of apology. If the sender hopes to express a feeling of 'falling in love,' yellow roses with red tips are the bloom of choice for a hopeful suitor. If the sender is trepidatious about revealing the heart's desire for Valentine's Day but doesn't want to lose the opportunity to impress, a mixed bouquet of colors is a sophisticated and beautiful option.

Fashion forward Gina Penzarella

The old cliche, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride," was amusingly illustrated in the film 27 Dresses. We watch Katherine Heigl's character, aptly named 'Jane,' don some of the most unusual and in some cases hideous bridesmaid dresses to celebrate the day of matrimonial knot tying, as a dutiful friend.

Gina Penzarella doesn't think that stunning couture should be reserved for the bride. A native of New York City, Gina's business savvy and passion for making all women feel and look fabulous at their special occassion, motivated her to open Footlights Boutique in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania. With an eye on emerging fashion trends, Gina Penzarella provides her customers with a collection of dresses for any event, with a commitment to personal service at her Easton boutique store. Attentive to client needs, Gina and her Footlights Boutique staff even keep track of the dresses sold by school, to ensure that no two girls show up in the same dress on prom night.

Serving as the boutique's owner and manager, Gina Penzarella is active in the Lehigh Valley business community, attending Chamber of Commerce events and making her services available to organizations supported by Catholic Charities. She is also an animal lover, who uses her couture and organizational expertise to coordinate fashion events that benefit the local SPCA. With far more than 27 dresses furnished to her loyal base of customers, Gina is a reliable resource for fashion lovers.

Last minute gift with 1-800 Flowers

This holiday season seemed to zoom by faster than the German Autobahn. Always a busy time of year because in addition to celebrating Christmas, my calendar is packed with birthdays to remember. Pressed for time and a creative and unique way to help my mom mark her sixty-fourth year, I opted for a tree planting kit from 1-800 Flowers. Perusing the floral and gift selection provided wonderful ideas, many offering discounts that are a welcome opportunity in the season of shopping overindulgence. Many of the items were an even bigger bargain than I expected and ultimately my choice was satisfying.

Using 1-800 Flowers this time of year was particularly helpful in that it did not require yet another trip to a picked-over store following a round of parking lot rodeo. In fact, I was able to place my order with ease, while on my lunch break. Convenience is everything, in my book.

Another great feature of 1-800 Flowers is the availability of next-day delivery. As a true procrastinator, it was a treat to have my mom receive her gift on time, in spite of my lateness in choosing it. I never would have thought of sending a tree, and was thrilled to send something life-affirming and enduring. Perhaps the most fun part was that when I called to wish her a Happy Birthday, the box was waiting outside her door.
